Confidentiality and Supervision
What is shared with me during a session is confidential. However there are exceptions, for example as an accredited member of BACP and a Counsellor Member of COSCA I am required to meet with my supervisor once a month to discuss my work in order to ensure that I am practicing effectively and ethically in my client's best interests. No client's personal or identifiable details are divulged and my work with my supervisor, who is also a trained practitioner, is governed by the same standards of confidentiality. If I was concerned there was a risk of serious harm to my client or others, I would discuss this with them with a view to seeking agreement for additional professional help, such as contacting a GP, and I ask for GP details should these be required.
In the rare event of breaking confidentiality without prior consent, such as a legal requirement to do so, only those persons who absolutely need to know would be informed and wherever possible and appropriate this would be done with my client's full knowledge and consent.
Sessions and Fees
I work in the evenings from 5.30pm onwards and on a Saturday and Sunday from 9.00am to 5pm. A session will last for one hour and we would meet at a time and frequency suitable to us both. The fee for a session is £40 and I offer concessionary terms for students and those on low income.
Cancellation or Late Arrival
Cancellation of an appointment with less than 24 hours notice or failure to show, unless there are exceptional circumstances, unfortunately will incur a charge to cover the cost of room rental. It is expected that the session will begin at the agreed time. Any session that begins after this time due to late arrival cannot be extended beyond the agreed finish time.
As a member of both BACP and COSCA I abide by their professional codes of ethics and practice. Their standards and complaint procedures can be found on their websites at www.bacp.co.uk and www.cosca.org.uk.
